Born June 28, 1924 in Mac-Mahon (currently Aïn-Touta) in Algeria, René, Louis, Gabriel Meyere was mobilized on December 1, 1943 at the age of 19. He was one of the youngest soldiers in the French army.

He participated in the landing of Provence, in the reconquest of the Rhône valley as far as Alsace then in the German campaign with the Army of the Rhine and Danube under the orders of General de Lattre de Tassigny. Gifted with languages, he serves as a translator between the French and American armies and the German population.

He obtained the Croix de Guerre with two citations on the field of honor and the military medal. Algeria: Mac Mahon; Oran; France ; Saint-Raphaël, Rhône Valley, Alsace; Germany, Karlsruhe, Offenburg, Freiburg, Lörrach, Sickingen; Austria, Innsbruck.
